1.0 Welcome
Thank you for purchasing SpectraLayers 3.0 software. This document contains information about installing and using SpectraLayers on your computer.
 
2.0 What's New
Notable fixes/changes in version 3.0 (Build 27)
  • Added a Layout File box on the Display tab of the Preferences dialog to choose the default window layout that will be used when SpectraLayers starts.
  • Added a Layout Mode drop-down list on the Display tab of the Preferences dialog to choose whether you want to optimize the interface for a desktop or tablet computer during startup. When you choose Tablet, the interface elements are optimized for touchscreen editing.
    To change the layout during editing, choose View > Desktop or View > Tablet. (Windows only)
  • Added a DPI Scaling drop-down list on the Display tab of the Preferences dialog to choose whether you want to optimize the interface for a normal or high-resolution display during startup. (Windows only)
  • Added an Invert Mouse Wheel Axes check box to the Display tab of the Preferences dialog if the mouse wheel axes are inverted in the waveform and spectrum graph.
  • Added support for Ctrl+drag (Windows) and ⌘-drag (OS X) for panning the spectrum display.
  • Added support for reading and exporting Opus files.
  • Added a Mix All Layers check box in the Sample window. Select the check box to view sample data for all layers as a mix, or clear the check box if you want to view sample data for each layer independently,
  • Added a Settings button to the Device tab in the Preferences dialog to allow you to configure ASIO audio devices. If you're using an ASIO audio device, click to display the ASIO Preferences dialog.
    • Type a value in the Forced Sample Rate box to specify the sample rate for your device.
    • Select the Use Preferred Buffer Size check box if you want to allow the ASIO driver to choose the buffer size. When the check box is cleared, the Buffer Size value from the Preferences dialog is used.
  • Improved audio device detection.
  • Improved support for high-resolution mice and and horizontal/vertical scrolling.
  • Improved performance for saving .wav files.
  • The Reset buttons in the Preferences dialog now reset values immediately.
  • When exporting a 16-bit audio, SpectraLayers now prompts you to apply a dithering type for noise shaping.
  • Removed support for exporting to Windows Media Audio format.
  • Added Edit > Reinterpret Project to allow you to change the project's sample rate and number of channels without resampling or remixing the project.
  • You can now click a blank area of the Channels panel to select all channels.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause SpectraLayers to crash after importing a file on some Windows computers.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause SpectraLayers to crash when double-clicking a layer to rename it.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause SpectraLayers to crash if no audio device was available.
  • Fixed a bug that could distort the Display tab after resizing the Preferences dialog.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the Sampler and Graph tools from using the Level Multiplier setting.
  • Fixed an opacity bug when using the Eraser and Dodge tools.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the Scale and Move tools from updating correctly when multiple operations were applied.

3.0 Known Issues
  • In SpectraLayers on Windows 8, you might see a product registration error when you first start the application. Close the application and start it again to work around this issue.
  • If SpectraLayers 3.0 was installed to a custom location, the update may not detect the existing installation folder. When installing the update, you'll need to select your installation folder. (Windows only).

The following lists the minimum system requirements for using SpectraLayers software:

  • Dual-core processor (quad-core processor recommended)
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 2 GB of free hard disk space (for temporary files)
  • OpenGL 3.0 compatible graphics card
  • 1280x720 display resolution
  • Windows-compatible audio hardware
  • Internet Explorer 8 or later, Firefox 10 or later, or Google Chrome 13 or later (for viewing help)
OS X
  • Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), 10.8 (Mountain Lion), 10.9 (Mavericks), 10.10 (Yosemite), or 10.11 (El Capitan)
  • Intel dual-core processor (quad-core processor recommended)
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 2 GB of free hard disk space (for temporary files)
  • OpenGL 3.0 compatible graphics card
  • 1280x720 display resolution
  • CoreAudio-compatible audio hardware
5.0 Installation
The install utility creates any necessary folders and copies all files required by SpectraLayers software to your computer.
 
Installing from a Disc
  1. Place the SpectraLayers application disc in the drive.
  2. Browse to the installer at the root of the disc.
  3. Double-click the installer, and then follow the on-screen prompts to install the appropriate version of SpectraLayers for your computer.
Installing from the Web
  1. Download the install utility from our Web site.
  2. Double-click the file, and then follow the on-screen prompts to install the appropriate version of SpectraLayers for your computer.
